The Iron Mask
Story: Based on Alexander Dumas' sequel to The Three Musketeers entitled The Man in the Iron Mask. D'Artagnan becomes protector of Prince Louis XIV to enable him to become the proper heir to the throne.
Scenery: Scenes filmed at Point Lobos.
Director: Allan Dwan.
Stars: Douglas Fairbanks, Belle Bennett.
Studio: United Artists
Aspect ratio: 1.37:1
Sound: Mono-Western Electric Sound System. The
film featured some "talking" sequences, however much of it was done as a
traditional silent film but with a musical and sound effect soundtrack on
the film itself. Given the date, it was probably also released as a silent
film in theatres not yet equipped for sound. The picture was re-released
in 1940 with narration by Douglas Fairbanks. The latter is the
most most common version available today.
