The film featured some "talking" sequences, however much of it was done as a traditional silent film but with a musical and sound effect soundtrack on the film itself. Given the date, it was probably also released as a silent film in theatres not yet equipped for sound. The picture was re-released in 1940 with narration by Douglas Fairbanks. The latter is the most most common version available today.
