The Shift

Alternate Title: Ambition to Meaning: Finding Your Life's Purpose

Story: A docudrama relating to the teachings of Dr. Wayne Dyer. Three plotlines are threaded through the movie. One involves the everyday hassles of a family of four with the mother secretly desiring greater avenues for self-expression. Another involves a 30-something couple having trouble getting along because the husband is too focused on his work. The third involves Wayne Dyer himself, who is in the process of filming a documentary and dealing with the challenges his video crew is facing. They all converge at Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove where their various dramas play out. Dyer's commentary during the "filmed" interviews ties the stories together.

Scenery: Filmed entirely on the Monterey Peninsula, mostly at the Asilomar Conference Center grounds in Pacific Grove. One brief scene includes the lower Alvarado Street Mall in downtown Monterey. Another was shot on a bench on the east side of Lake El Estero and there's another brief shot around the corner on Pearl Street in front of the cemetary. A restaurant scene was filmed inside the Stokes Adobe on Polk and Hartnell Streets in Monterey. A scene near the end was shot on the Cypress Grove trail at Point Lobos.
