Alternate title: For Better, For Worse

Story: In the 1870s a pioneering rancher gets a mail-order bride. They struggle with the hardships of life in Big Sur and with each other. Based on the novel The Stranger in Big Sur, by Lilliam Bos Ross.

Scenery: Filmed almost entirely in the Big Sur area, mostly in the mountains, but several scenes were shot near the shoreline. A set depicting a small frontier town (with a "Pacific House" suggesting, perhaps, old Monterey) was built at Andrew Molera State Park.
